John 1:12 “Yet to those who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”
I’m convinced that the single big enormous truth that we find so hard to grasp and so often skip over is essentially quite simple.
God loves you. Completely. And it doesn’t depend on your performance, your holiness, your circumstances.
You know that thing girls do with a daisy? He loves me, he loves me not. He loves me, he loves me not. To what extent does your concept of God’s love for you depend on your circumstances? You get a parking space – He loves me. You get ill – He loves me not. The sun shines for a picnic – He loves me. It rains on your walk to work and you get soaked – he loves me not. And what about your actions? To what extent does your performance as a follower of Christ affect your concept of God’s love for you? You share your faith – He loves me. You lose your temper – He loves me not. You give money away – he loves me. You break your diet – He loves me not.
Saints, God loves you and his love doesn’t change according to circumstances or personal holiness. With God there is only one thing to say with each pluck of a daisy petal: He loves me, He loves me, He loves me.
Often believing this truth and receiving this love is a choice we can make or ignore, and that choice will make or break our quality of life, our witness to Jesus, and our freedom in him. Will you believe him and receive his love today?
And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. (Ephesians 3:17-19)
