Shrink Back or Stand Up?

Hebrews 10:39 “But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.”

Listen to the words of a persecuted pastor in the Sudan, having gone through decades of oppression, injustice and pain:

St James says: “Resist the devil and he will flee.” How do we resist the devil who is threatening us today? Our weapon as Christians is ‘the sword of the Spirit’ – the Holy Bible – and prayer. I don’t want to say bad things, but I must say this: our Lord is powerful. But we assure the government that we won’t take up stones or guns to defend our schools or churches. We know God is in us. We don’t fear those who can kill the body. We fear the one who can kill the body and the soul. Continue praying until this issue is resolved. Those who are afraid to die: go home. Because if you are here and one of us dies, you will run away and frighten the rest. We believe God has a purpose in allowing this to happen at this time. It is for the good of Christians in this country. Some people dream of wiping out the Christian faith by the end of the decade. They are entitled to their dream. Let them continue to dream. I have a different dream. I have a dream that the people of Sudan will soon live together in peace and harmony. I have a dream that all the people of the Sudan will be worshipping the one God, the Lord Jesus Christ, by the end of the next hundred years. Are you ready to dream with me?

Those words are deeply humbling and challenging… They are a reminder to pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world, and to stand up with and for them. Look up Open Doors, CSW, Barnabas Fund, etc and get involved today.

Lord, may I not be among those who shrink back. I choose to stand up today. Amen!
