Ephesians 6 “Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests… be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.”
A missionary was back in America on furlough and speaking at his home church. He told of how one of his jobs was to go to the nearest town to collect the rural health clinic’s staff salaries at the end of each month. One particular end-of-month, he saw a fight taking place, so he intervened, nursed the injured man, told him about Jesus, and then went on his way to the bank and then home to dispense the money. The following month, the man he’d nursed stopped him and told him how his gang had followed him into the bush to kill him and steal the money, but they couldn’t because when they approached him they suddenly saw he had twenty six security guards. The missionary laughed and insisted he was alone, but the young man was adamant that all five of them had seen the guards. At that point in the story, a man in the congregation jumped up excitedly and insisted on knowing the date that took place. When the missionary gave him the date, he told how that very morning he was about to play golf when he felt the urge to pray for his missionary friend in Central Africa. The Lord’s prompting was so strong he’d left the golf and called others to join him at church and pray. He asked those he’d involved to stand up. Twenty six men stood to their feet in that sanctuary. A hush descended as the realization dawned on those gathered of what had taken place.
Have you ever felt a prompt to pray for someone? I think it happens all the time but often we ignore or miss it. Prayer works. It’s powerful. There’s a spiritual battle going on. Red alert!
Lord, today I choose to be alert and pray for people you bring to my mind. Amen!
