Proverbs 16:3,9 “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.”
Three sturdy trees were on a mountain top dreaming about what they wanted to be. The first said it wanted to contain treasure. The second said it wanted to be a strong sailing ship, and carry powerful kings. The third wanted to grow tall, and make people think of God. Years passed. Three woodcutters came by and chopped them down. The first wasn’t fashioned into a treasure chest but rather a simple feed box for animals. The second was made into small fishing boat rather than a mighty sailing vessel – and then it was lowered into in a lake and daily filled with smelly fish. The third was confused at being cut into beams and left. Years passed and all three nearly forgot their dreams.
Never forget your dreams.
Then a lady laid her baby in the feeding tray, and the first tree knew it held the best treasure in the world. The second tree was in a storm with a visitor, who calmed the waves and brought peace. Then it knew it was carrying the king of all the earth. And one Friday morning the third tree’s beams were yanked from a forgotten wood pile, but Sunday morning, when sun rose and the earth trembled with joy below, the third tree knew God’s love had changed everything. For all three their dreams were better than being the tallest tree.
What are your plans? What are your dreams? The above verses from Proverbs became very real to me at a time when things in my life were totally out of my control and unclear, and I was questioning the plans and dreams I believed were God-given but didn’t look like happening. I memorised them and held on to the promises contained in them. May you do the same.
Lord, I choose to entrust all my plans and dreams to you, to remember them and not give up. Amen!
