Galatians 6:9,10 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people…”
Mother Theresa had a hand-written note hung on her bedroom wall which said:
People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centred; forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; be successful anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous; be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; give the world the best you’ve got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God; it never was between you and them anyway.
She in her time and we in ours are faced with opportunities to choose well or badly every day. Most people make such choices reactively, based on how those around them might think or respond. But in the final analysis, it is indeed ‘between you and God’. Os Guinness wrote about Winston Churchill’s experiences at the hand of a vitriolic Member of Parliament. Churchill was asked whether he was hurt by the blistering attack. He replied: “If I respected him, I would care about his opinion. But I don’t, so I don’t.” Whilst, of course, we should hold the world in respect, we who live before the Audience of One can say to the world: ‘I have only one audience. Before you I have nothing to prove, nothing to gain, nothing to lose.’
We all get weary, but don’t give up. The above verse promises us we will reap a harvest. So keep focusing on your Master’s business!
