Day-Dreamer or Dreamer-of-the-Day?

Hebrews 11:13 “All of these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance.”

Lawrence of Arabia said: “Everyone dreams, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake up in the day to find it was vanity. But the dreamers of the day are dangerous people, for they may act out their dreams with open eyes to make it happen.” Day-dreaming is a waste of time become it doesn’t produce anything. But being a dreamer of the day is entirely different. Hebrews 11 talks of the latter kind, mentioning the likes of Abraham and Moses who were world-shaping dreamers in their day.

More recently, Disneyland and then Disney World became hugely successful realities, although Walt Disney himself died before the latter was completed. However, at the opening ceremony of Disney World in Florida, the presiding speaker said: “I wish Walt could’ve seen this!” Behind him, Walt’s wife whispered: “He did!”

Clement Stone was a hugely successful financier and philanthropist. He was once asked: “How have you been able to do so much in your lifetime?” He replied: “I’ve dreamed. I’ve turned my mind loose to imagine what I wanted to do. Then I’ve gone to bed and thought about my dreams. In the night, I’ve dreamed about them. And when I’ve arisen in the morning, I’ve seen the way to get to my dreams. While other people were saying, ‘You can’t do that, it isn’t possible’, I was well on my way to achieving what I wanted.”

How about you – what’s your dream? Think about it. Pray about it. Crystallize the vision. Be prepared for opposition. And then ‘act out your dream with open eyes to make it happen’!

Lord, speak to me so that my dreams and aspirations align with your plans and purposes for my life; and give me the courage to go for whatever you are calling me to. Amen!
